Except consumer battery chargers, SPK is also specialized in high-performance, mission-critical, custom battery packs and smart battery charger systems for portable medical, handheld Automatic Identification and Data Collection.
SPK brings a wide range of engineering, manufacturing and verification experts together throughout the development process to ensure optimized custom battery packs for portable devices. SPK Team is well acquainted with the challenges presented by modern technology and has designed numerous Ni-MH/ lithium batteries. Our manufacturing expertise has been honed by the fabrication of mission-critical packs, especially medical batteries.
We take into account all the electrical and mechanical aspects of each battery system including;
· Power requirements
· Real-time power loads
· Usage patterns
· Operating temperatures
· Environmental conditions
The main components of a customer battery pack include; 1) the cells providing the primary energy source, 2) the printed circuit board providing the intelligence of the system for the advanced functions of a smart battery such as fuel gauge calculations on remaining cell capacity, protection circuitry, thermal sensors used to monitor internal pack temperature, LEDs that indicate pack or cell status, and a serial data communications bus that communicates to the host device in a smart battery, 3) a custom plastic enclosure typically produced in an injection mold, 4) external contacts providing a physical electrical interface with the host device, and 5) insulation used to absorb external shock and retain the positioning of internal components. Portable power system may also include battery chargers or smart battery chargers. The custom battery pack is a finished product and can be connected or attached to the host device.
The main components of a battery assembly include; 1) the cells providing the primary energy source, 2) the flexible printed circuit board providing the intelligence of the system for advanced functions such as fuel gauge calculations on remaining cell capacity, protection circuitry, thermal sensors used to monitor internal pack temperature, and a serial data communications bus that communicates to the host device in a smart battery, 3) flying leads or cabling with a connector for attachment to the host device, and 4) shrink-wrap plastic wrap to maintain the assembly form. The battery assembly is a subassembly of the host device, and is typically embedded within the host device. This subassembly could include an embedded battery charger, as well.
Power solutions can no longer be developed as isolated systems. They must be an integral part of the equipment design process from product inception through final fabrication. At SPK, our experts work with suppliers and customers to make sure all criteria are met and that we are delivering the best value and highest performing solution available. When we design and manufacture new battery packs or battery chargers, we bring all stakeholders to the table ‘ͺ our engineering talent as well as the input of our suppliers and customers. This collaborative process includes:
Cell selection and qualification testing
Mechanical design of external plastic enclosure
Electrical design of internal electronics (including protection circuits, fuel gauges, serial communications buses (SMBus, I2C, HDQ), LED indicators, battery authentication, cell balancing, and embedded charger)
Preliminary and Detailed Design Reviews
Electrical and mechanical prototyping
Environmental testing (temperature, shock & vibration, humidity, ESD, EMI, altitude, water ingress)
We offer:
